I have recently read a rather interesting section on the upcoming issue of the British Journal of Photography. Based on the idea of the female gaze and how different is it from men’s. In this issue they are showing all types of work from racial prejudice to abortion.
They have collected work from an array of female photographers, and have started to look at how women are taking a stand from behind the camera. And capturing taboo subjects in order to show the reality to them. And how they should be talked about not hidden from view like something that is dirty.
And that they are giving an entire issue over to these subjects, it will give an all round feel to the work and how they have chose to document this genre. As the ways in which to do that leave it so open whether to keep it neutral or make it a raw as possible.
