Like Yesterday is a collaboration between myself and my sister. It has been an ongoing project that only came to life when I started seeing the change in my now not so little sister. Unknown to us both this project really kicked off in the early stages of my first year. And was only in final year this project gained both body and speed. Through this we have worked it into a transformation that so many young women go through and I have been lucky enough to photograph this beautiful young girl grow into this now young women.
Train station Exhibition
I personally miss my landscape work. So seeing this in the train station on the way to work was fab! These are some of the most beautiful landscapes of the year. And I like how they are pretty much stay true and it’s not industrialised . They aren’t over edited and remain neutral which I find is rare these days.
It was good to see the simply beautiful images in the middle of the city center where so many are photo shopped advertisements setting unrealistic body ideals we forget there is a countryside surrounding us really as we live so built up
Final Prints
I have finally settled on 4 prints in a range of sizes that I am more than happy to exhibit. I have done both test prints and just ordered my final prints today. I wanted to make sure the images didn’t lose their quality and to see what they looked like on semi gloss paper. Which is making it all real now that I am on my final week and sending off for the final bits of work!!
All my dummy books
Not long after my first shoot I started my photo books. I wanted to start getting and idea of what my book was going to start to look like. I wanted to be able to see where the holes were in the work. Which meant that I could plan my shoots a lot more effectively knowing what I needed to put in where.
In the end I had about 10 Or so dummy books (Not all in the image above). They had all types of edits in, I had big 50 page edits down to condensed 20 pages. I was trying to find the middle ground for what was going to work. This helped in terms of what photos I could eliminate. I wasn’t sure what photos would work, as an individual image they worked put together in a sequence some would not fit into a sequence.
Because of this it turned into a lot of trial and error. While a group of photos would work in another sequence I would try after another shoot the sequence would fall apart again. So the middle ground of shooting got quiet complicated as I wasn’t sure what to shoot for fear of messing up a sequence.
It was only really in the last two sequnces that it really came together. It felt like it took forever to get to. And I remember being repetdly told that out of nowhere my work would just click into place. And what felt like to last minute for my liking it did end up just falling into place. Which left me with very little and next to no time to then test paper types. But I luckily knew what paper I had in mind. And it did mean that in the end I have finished with a sequence I am happy with!!
Solopress paper samples
Solopress is another company that I have had paper samples off. They have been good to look at as it shows me either how different or similar the paper types are between companies.
Solopress had a more thicker quality of paper, with a little less selection than my other sample booklets. Although they have a more concentrated variety of paper types, which would have made some of my work more bold and interesting, but then the other half the paper types just wouldn’t suit my type of work. Which unfortunately meant that across the board my work would not have been suited to the paper types this company offered. Which was a shame.
IKEA daytrip…
Today I had to go get frames to exhibit my work in. So what better place than IKEA I could browse for my dream house, buy pointless things I don’t need and get my frames what better way to spend my day and money!! I had seen various styles of frames online and wasn’t sure which style or colour to go for. Having just this morning made a change to my one of my image sizes it was good timing.
IKEA was good as I didn’t want to pay something extortionate for frames and was also worried about the size of prints as I wanted to be an over achiever and go big for my main print. My only problem next is the border the frames contain and fitting my image in with them in or out to not lose the image at all.
LinkedIn.
Throughout the year I have been doing little bit’s to my linkedIn profile and linked my blog in so all my work goes onto it. I started off with just uni connections like classmates and now through my job have got work connections all over even in Japan.
LinkedIn has been good to see what is on offer job wise and to find connections in things that I am interested in. I have always struggled to write CV’s and LinkedIn has made as easy set up to follow. Because of how they lay it out writing a new CV was made so much easier, as I am not one for being able to write about myself comfortably or well. It even saves time it is so easy to be able to send the link through for your LinkedIn which really is a more interactive CV and way of looking at a person. And with how digital everything is it fits even better.
Thinking about my future…
In the last couple of months I have played with the idea of doing my MA. I have people at my work even who work full time that are working their own MA in to their routine. I haven’t been happy with my degree coming to an end. My original plan was to do another completely different degree in a year or so, but I found out that I would not be able to get the funding. Which I am gutted about.
But doing my final project has had me thinking about going on with my education. I do want to take at least a year out to work and be sure it is what I want to do. I have looked at what is required and I feel that I could do it. I would like to in the future go on to work in art or photography, as doing my PGC has also occurred to me as I do have a lot of options.
But it does mean a lot to me to try and stay close to my degree as hard as it is to get into a good job in art and photography.
Exhibition sketches
I have had quiet a few ideas on how to exhibit my work, but I have changed the size of my work. I am now doing two A2’s instead of just one and an A3, now that I have ordered my prints I don’t know where to take my work. I have so many ideas and options on how to put my work up, but I think it will be a when it’s time to put the work up that will be when I make a final decision on how I wish to put the work up.
Instagram takeover
These are all the post’s that I have put up to do with Jess, I have enjoyed putting my work up and getting likes for them. I wanted to see how total strangers felt towards my work, and I was pleasantly surprised. I had a lot of good feedback from comments, followers and likes. I haven’t usually posted any of my work on Instagram, just keep the standard coffee posts and what else… but it has been a good confidence boost for my work.
